Bringing Dogs Across the Border

If you’re travelling to Saskatchewan to hunt, you’re permitted to bring your hunting dogs across the border. Most dogs will require the proper rabies vaccination paperwork. Some anglers bring a dog as a companion on a fishing trip. The same requirements apply regardless of the reason for bringing your dog across the border.

In order to transport your dog across the border you will be required to provide a valid rabies vaccination certificate; and the dog appears healthy and meets humane transportation requirements.

Dogs must have been at least 3 months of age at the time of rabies vaccination.

The rabies vaccination certificate must:

  • be written in English or French, or be accompanied by an official translation
  • be issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian
  • identify the animal (age, breed, sex, colour/markings, weight, and microchip/tattoo number if applicable)
  • identify the owner of the dog
  • state that the animal is vaccinated against rabies
  • indicate the date of rabies vaccination
  • indicate the trade name and the serial number of the licensed rabies vaccine
  • specify the period of validity of the rabies vaccination (otherwise, it will be considered valid for 1 year from the date of vaccination); and
  • have the name and signature of the licensed veterinarian that issued the certificate and the date it was signed

Provincial records are extremely hard to come by, some of them are nearly a century old. Others, in addition to being provincial records, are also world records.
