2018 Board of Directors

2018 Board of Directors

SCPO members elected their first board of directors at the 2017 December Convention. Nine
outfitters let their names stand for election.

Harvey Kroll

Board Chair / Hatchet Lake Lodge

I have worked successfully as an outfitter for 30 years. With the recent effort to build a new provincial organization for our industry, I stepped into a leadership role as Chair of the Interim Board. I have dedicated a significant amount of volunteer time and effort over the past three years towards this important project, on behalf of the board and our industry. I strongly believe we must have a member-driven, professional organization serving and protecting the future of our industry.

Jeff Smith

Vice Chair & Big Game Sector Chair / Kutawagan Outfitters

My wife Annette and I own Kutawagan Outfitters, near Choiceland operating from our home/Lodge (Bear Paw Lodge). We generally accommodate and guide between 15-25 bear hunters each spring and 15-20 deer hunters each fall. 2017 marks our 26th season in the outfitting industry. We have seen good times and lean times dealt to our industry, with many challenges beyond our control. In spite of this, the outfitting industry is thriving in Saskatchewan. I have been involved with the Big Game Committee for several years and am currently the interim Big Game chair. With a strong group of directors and active Committee Members I know much can be accomplished.

Craig Blackmur

Angling Sector Committee Chair / Wollaston Lake Lodge

Growing up in an outfitting business that evolved from one small camp to later include outposts, day use lakes, and a large main lodge presented a broad learning experience. From there it was a smooth transition to Wollaston Lake Lodge, my present-day home, where I work with a great team. Wollaston is a lodge with fishing as the priority, but also moose and bear on a smaller scale. Love of outfitting keeps me here, I think some of the best people around are outfitters … damn if they don’t say what’s on their mind, too. But friendly, a pleasure to work with, and committed to doing the best for guests, family, and the resource we utilize.

Rob Nye

Canadian Trophy Quest

I am the owner/GM of Canadian Trophy Quest Ltd, a bear/deer/ waterfowl outfit near Carrot River SK. I have guided hunters and anglers across northern Saskatchewan since 1980 and have guided anglers in the Arctic for 16 years. The only downside to running successful outfitting camps is it cuts into my own time afield, but it beats the heck out of a real job! In addition to a lifetime spent guiding I have been a widely published outdoor writer/photographer since 1984. I will do all I can to promote professionalism in the outdoor industry in Saskatchewan.

Grant Kuypers

Buck Paradise Outfitters

I own and operate Buck Paradise Outfitters with my two sons, Garet and Ian. I have been an outfitter for deer, bear & waterfowl for the past 20 years. I am passionate about the industry and proud to live in this wonderful province and feel very privileged to be able to host people from around the world to show them what Saskatchewan has to offer. I served on the SOA board for 12 years. I am very passionate about our new SCPO and look forward to working for our outfitting industry.

Kevin Roswell

Game Bird Sector Committee Chair / Wheeler River Lodge

Together with my wife, Cheryl, we own and operate two different outfitting companies: Wheeler River Lodge, a fly-in fishing/hunting lodge which is located 180 miles north of LaRonge, and Big Sky Outfitting, a bird operation based from our farm at Cut Knife. Sask. Although we have farmed and ranched our entire lives, we’ve also been involved in outfitting for over 25 years. I have served several years on the SOA board and hope to see some of the new improvements carried forward with the new organization.
